Competency Frameworks

Bringing clarity and unity on role requirements to ensure your workforce the best chance of success.

To achieve your goals, you’ve got to be able to measure individual performance.

To enhance team performance and foster business growth, it is imperative to achieve clarity and unity within the team.  We do this by developing a Competency Framework, an essential tool to help you recruit the right people, maintain high performance and meet your commercial ambitions.

Identifying underperformance or high-potential individuals can be challenging, making it essential to understand your team thoroughly. Before initiating training and development, it is crucial to identify the specific needs of your team members to provide targeted support.

Ultimately, the key to business success lies in having the right people in the right roles with the appropriate skills and behaviours.

Discovery is here to help you build a high-performing team, ensuring your business thrives by aligning the right people with the right skills and roles. Reach out to us today and unlock your team’s full potential.

Recruit the right people, maintain high performance and meet your commercial ambitions.

Identifying underperformance or high potential in a team can be difficult. Gain the clarity you need to grow your business.  Before you start training & developing team members, you need to know what you’re aiming for. Provide your team with what they need, rather than what you think they need.

Bring engagement from key stakeholders and your employees; if you’re all clear on ‘what good looks like’, you’re one step closer to attaining it.  A benchmark is specific to your organisation; a top performer in another company may be an underperformer for you – find your next superstar.

Invariably, employees can end up in roles that aren’t best suited to their skillset. Nobody wants to lose employees with the right values and behaviours – instead, identify where they are best suited.  Having the right people, in the right roles, with the right skills and behaviours is critical to business success and you will see huge returns for benchmarking to ensure you get it right.

Frequently Asked Questions

Competency frameworks typically consist of several key elements: -

Core Competencies: These are the fundamental skills and behaviours that are essential for all employees, regardless of their specific role. Core competencies often reflect the values and culture of the organisation, such as teamwork, communication, and adaptability.

Functional Competencies: These competencies are specific to particular roles or departments. They outline the technical skills and knowledge required to perform job-specific tasks effectively. For example, a marketing role might require competencies in digital marketing, data analysis, and creative thinking.

Leadership Competencies: For managerial and leadership roles, these competencies focus on the abilities needed to guide teams, make strategic decisions, and drive organisational change. Leadership competencies often include skills such as decision-making, emotional intelligence, and strategic vision.

Behavioural Indicators: These are observable actions or behaviours that demonstrate the presence of a particular competency. Behavioural indicators help in assessing whether an employee possesses the required competencies and at what level.

The results of the competency framework are what a ‘best in class’ employee would look like. This means that it’s a great tool for recruiting people who demonstrate good levels of ability against the framework, as well as identifying development areas for new recruits and current employees. We recommend using the competency framework in conjunction with our assessment centres or development centres.

Why Discovery?

The Discovery team are experts in designing and delivering career-defining development programmes for organisations across the UK.

Our approach to long-term success is to understand the stresses and strains on a business that cause attrition, under performance, disengagement, culture erosion – all things that impact on business success, employee well-being and, ultimately, profits. This approach stems from the Discovery founders’ many years of experience in the recruitment, training and performance improvement arena, and their passion & desire to do things better.
Experience has taught us that recruitment and training are better when approached together rather than in isolation: often, an identified need for recruitment or training can be symptomatic of wider needs across a business. Our diagnostic approach involves exploring all possible options with our clients to ensure we find the root cause before we implement a ‘surface led’ solution.
