{"id":3860,"date":"2016-06-07T11:26:44","date_gmt":"2016-06-07T11:26:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/?p=3860"},"modified":"2016-06-07T11:26:44","modified_gmt":"2016-06-07T11:26:44","slug":"students-set-on-making-a-fortune-should-study-engineering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/discovery-adr.com\/us\/students-set-on-making-a-fortune-should-study-engineering\/","title":{"rendered":"Students Set On Making A Fortune Should Study Engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students looking to excel financially should set their sights on studying engineering at university, according to new research.<\/p>\n<p>The study revealed that 22% of the world\u2019s wealthiest people have studied engineering at university, with a degree in the subject twice as likely to help someone to become a billionaire as one in business education.<\/p>\n<p>Approved Index \u2013 a business-to-business buying platform \u2013 analyzed the educational background of billionaires by examining Forbes\u2019 list of the richest 100 people in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Studying business helped 12% to amass their fortune, while 9% studied an arts subject \u2013 surprisingly a higher number than those that specialized in business-orientated topics, such as finance and economics.<\/p>\n<p>With just 4% having studied science and maths at university, the results of the research point towards a need for greater focus on ensuring students know the value of STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Value of studying STEM subjects<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Girls who take just one A-level focused on a STEM subject have the potential to earn an additional \u00a34,500 each year, according to research from Sutton Trust.<\/p>\n<p>The focus on STEM subjects could see a change in the stereotype of billionaires in the future.
