{"id":34342,"date":"2014-11-18T12:00:50","date_gmt":"2014-11-18T12:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/?p=1641"},"modified":"2014-11-18T12:00:50","modified_gmt":"2014-11-18T12:00:50","slug":"bsi-launches-first-hr-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/discovery-adr.com\/us\/bsi-launches-first-hr-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"BSI launches first HR standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The British Standards Institution (BSI) has announced that it has published a draft of the first standard for HR practice.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;BS 76000 \u2013 Management system for valuing people in organizations&#8217; has been developed with experts from a range of professional bodies including: ACAS, the CIPD and the TUC &#8211; in addition to a number of academics and employers.<\/p>\n<p>The standards center on the following basic principles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Senior leaders valuing their people<\/li>\n<li>The organization operating in a fair and socially responsible manner<\/li>\n<li>Staff having rights \u201cover and above\u201d those enshrined in existing regulation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Open for public consultation until January 2015, the BSI is calling on HR professionals to provide their valuable input into the document.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson Wong, Chair of the Human Capital Standards Committee at the BSI, explained how the organization arrived at the decision to create the standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe came to that because we felt that without a values-driven culture, it would not be possible to use the best and develop the potential of all the people contributing to an organization\u2019s value chain,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a growing industry recognition that HR needs a consistent set of standards to ensure good practice,\u201d adds Anne Hayes, head of Market Development for Governance and Risk at the BSI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe experts recognized that an overarching management system standard would help organizations to assess what they already have in place and address any gaps,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n<p><b>Establishing a benchmark for continuous improvement <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Set to be published in late spring or early summer 2015 the standard will act as a &#8220;requirement standard&#8221;, according to Hayes, giving HR organizations the opportunity to &#8220;check their own practice against these requirements to see what still needs addressing and ensure continuous improvement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed standard can be viewed in full at www.bsigroup.com\/bs76000 and is open for comments and suggestions.<\/p>\n<p><b>CIPD makes call for HR standards<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month CIPD Chief Executive Peter Cheese revealed his support for a number of measures designed to professionalise the HR industry &#8211; including standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am determined to push hard on this whole debate about metrics and standards, we want to really build momentum for them in 2015,\u201d Cheese told HR magazine on the last day of the CIPD\u2019s annual conference.<\/p>\n<p>If you are keen to refine your graduate recruitment process, Discovery Graduates can help with all stages of the graduate recruitment including attraction, recruitment and retention.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The British Standards Institution (BSI) has announced that it has published a draft of the first standard for HR practice.
