{"id":3157,"date":"2015-09-11T13:38:18","date_gmt":"2015-09-11T13:38:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/?p=3157"},"modified":"2015-09-11T13:38:18","modified_gmt":"2015-09-11T13:38:18","slug":"charities-need-graduates-to-succeed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/discovery-adr.com\/us\/charities-need-graduates-to-succeed\/","title":{"rendered":"Charities Need Graduates to Succeed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/charity-grads.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3158 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/charity-grads.jpg\" alt=\"charity grads\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s time that charities did more to recruit younger trustees by tapping into the pool of graduate talent, according to a new report by the Charities Aid Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Young Trustees Guide<\/em> that has been published this week has provided advice to charities \u2013 encouraging them to consider younger trustees to promote future success.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seeking out younger talent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the average age of a charity trustee standing at 57 years, it\u2019s time a younger team of professionals were brought into the mix.<\/p>\n<p>The report found that just 2% of charities have young people on their board \u2013 despite the survey highlighting that 85% of people under the age of 35 years would consider becoming a trustee.<\/p>\n<p>The guide has also laid bare the tips on how to improve recruitment methods and how to attract this younger pool of talent by offering legal training to get them up to speed.<\/p>\n<p>The report also highlighted how charities don\u2019t give enough consideration to the benefits of having a younger workforce.<\/p>\n<p>For example, by adding graduates to their workforce charities can encourage other young professionals to get involved in running these organizations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The potential of graduates <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>John Low, Chief Executive of Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), said that charities would benefit from getting involved in the potential of young people; the majority of whom are interested in such roles.<\/p>\n<p>Charities should be working hard to seek out this young talent and nurture the charity leaders of the future, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Paula Sussex, Chief Executive of the Charity Commission, said that a board\u2019s strength only lies in its team\u2019s skills and perspectives.<\/p>\n<p>In order to understand a charity\u2019s beneficiaries and serve them effectively, it therefore needs a diverse collection of people from all age groups acting as trustees and would benefit from the skills new talent can bring \u2013 such as a fresh perspective from the 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century.<\/p>\n<p>Would you like graduates to be a part of your team?
