{"id":3140,"date":"2015-09-04T10:27:09","date_gmt":"2015-09-04T10:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/?p=3140"},"modified":"2015-09-04T10:27:09","modified_gmt":"2015-09-04T10:27:09","slug":"revealed-16-24-year-olds-are-the-hardest-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/discovery-adr.com\/us\/revealed-16-24-year-olds-are-the-hardest-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"Revealed: 16-24 year olds are the hardest workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Grads-training-620.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2288 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Grads-training-620.jpg\" alt=\"Grads-training-620\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Younger workers in the UK are more likely to work longer hours than their older peers, according to a new survey.<\/p>\n<p>Research by OfficeGenie.co.uk found professionals and graduates aged 16-24 work an average of 7 hours and 22 minutes overtime every week \u2013 two more hours than staff over the age of 55.<\/p>\n<p>Employees in their thirties and forties work an additional five and a half hours per week, while the over 55s will put in at least 4 hours and 55 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The results of the survey of 1,000 office workers also found that almost 11% of 16-24 age group do more than 20 hours overtime every week \u2013 around twice as many as other age groups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Location matters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, the amount of additional hours these graduates put into their careers differs from location to location.<\/p>\n<p>Brighton seems to have the hardest working 16-24 year olds with employees claiming they put an additional eight hours and 43 minutes into overtime every week.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, London wasn\u2019t in the top five cities for hardest workers \u2013 tallying up just 5 hours and 16 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The top five cities for hardworking youngsters were:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Brighton \u2013 8 hours 43 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Cardiff \u2013 7 hours 10 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Manchester \u2013 6 hours 37 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Newcastle \u2013 6 hours 18 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Birmingham \u2013 6 hours 1 minute<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Ciaron Dunne, CEO at Office Genie, said that while younger workers tend to get bad press, there are a lot of misconceptions which this research clearly demonstrates.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He added that the high proportion of those under 24 who work more than 20 hours in overtime shows their true dedication and willingness to get ahead and work hard.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Are you a graduate employer?
