{"id":2859,"date":"2015-06-15T13:04:08","date_gmt":"2015-06-15T13:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/?p=2859"},"modified":"2015-06-15T13:04:08","modified_gmt":"2015-06-15T13:04:08","slug":"employers-hiring-graduates-this-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/discovery-adr.com\/us\/employers-hiring-graduates-this-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Employers hiring graduates this summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Application-filling-620.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2682 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Application-filling-620.jpg\" alt=\"Application-filling-620\" width=\"620\" height=\"361\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Employers are planning to hire more staff this summer than ever before, according to a new study by CareerBuilder.<\/p>\n<p>The nationwide survey \u2013 which looked at more than 400 employers \u2013 aimed to find out the hiring plans of UK firms this year.<\/p>\n<p>The research found that 39% of employers will be hiring seasonal workers, while 81% of these firms will be considering their summer employees for future permanent positions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gaining new skills and experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Scott Helmes, the Managing Director of the research firm, said the report demonstrates there are ample opportunities for graduates looking for seasonal work which can act as a \u201cgreat gateway\u201d into future permanent employment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only are many employers open to bringing summer hires on for permanent positions, but seasonal work is also an excellent way to gain new skills and experience and connect with people who could be great references later on,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The research found the most likely sectors to hire for seasonal workers were:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Customer service \u2013 36%<\/li>\n<li>Office support \u2013 32%<\/li>\n<li>IT \u2013 29%<\/li>\n<li>Sales \u2013 28%<\/li>\n<li>Engineering \u2013 19%<\/li>\n<li>Construction &amp; Painting \u2013 18%<\/li>\n<li>Hospitality &amp; Leisure \u2013 18%<\/li>\n<li>Manufacturing \u2013 17%<\/li>\n<li>Research \u2013 17%<\/li>\n<li>Restaurant\/Food service \u2013 13%<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Transforming seasonal work into permanent work<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Helmes noted that graduates can turn their seasonal jobs into a permanent position with \u201ca little initiative, a lot of hard work and some outstanding effort\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He offered the following tips for graduates to increase their chances of turning their seasonal role into a permanent one:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be proactive and ask if peers need assistance<\/li>\n<li>Always be on time<\/li>\n<li>Dress professionally<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the hiring manager is aware that you are looking for a permanent position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you\u2019re a recent graduate looking for your new permanent graduate role, take a look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/graduate-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Discovery Graduates job board<\/a>.
