{"id":2661,"date":"2015-04-29T13:21:47","date_gmt":"2015-04-29T13:21:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/?p=2661"},"modified":"2015-04-29T13:21:47","modified_gmt":"2015-04-29T13:21:47","slug":"research-claims-employers-face-a-leadership-gap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/discovery-adr.com\/us\/research-claims-employers-face-a-leadership-gap\/","title":{"rendered":"Research claims employers face a leadership gap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Leadership-650.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2662 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Leadership-650.jpg\" alt=\"Leadership-650\" width=\"650\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Employers are facing a leadership \u201ccapability gap\u201d according to the latest report published by Deloitte.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>UK Human Capital Trends 2015 <\/em>report found a staggering 86% of organizations in the UK find leadership one of their largest challenges with only 8% of respondents ranking their leadership capabilities as \u201cexcellent\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A capability gap for UK employers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The research also found a capability gap between the importance of leadership within an organization and how ready an employer is to succeed in this area.<\/p>\n<p>The report highlighted that a number of businesses are failing to develop leaders from the millennial age with only 6% stating they have \u201cexcellent\u201d programs in place to develop young staff into leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Head of Human Capital Practice at Deloitte UK, Anne-Marie Malley, commented that British firms need to \u201curgently\u201d address this issue by training the millennial age group to be the future leaders.<\/p>\n<p>By 2025 the millennial group are set to represent 75% of the British workforce as around four million \u201cBaby Boomers\u201d retire each year.<\/p>\n<p>Malley said this makes it even more important to ensure millennial staff is trained, arguing that the research also suggested a lack of commitment to the millennial group\u2019s career development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>An increasing demand for leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Learning and development also proved to be another big concern for employers in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Figures from the report found that while 80% of employers noted that workforce capability was an \u201cimportant challenge\u201d only 4% said they were ready to address it.<\/p>\n<p>This suggests organizations are hugely missing out on the benefits of supporting their staff through learning initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>HR departments are also falling behind with no respondents believing their business provides \u201cexcellent\u201d development for HR professionals.<\/p>\n<p>Only 10% of employers questioned rated their HR performance as \u201cexcellent\u201d while a massive 66% majority said the functions are poorly equipped to manage the fast-paced changes of their business.<\/p>\n<p>Malley added that while HR departments are expected to be \u201cbold, agile, business integrated and data driven\u201d, a lack of training and development means this is often not the case.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s employers must therefore recognize the importance and benefits of providing support, training and development in order to grow these vital areas.<\/p>\n<p>Are you an employer looking for skilled graduates?
