{"id":14739,"date":"2015-03-31T12:40:08","date_gmt":"2015-03-31T12:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/?p=2285"},"modified":"2015-03-31T12:40:08","modified_gmt":"2015-03-31T12:40:08","slug":"tech-employers-place-higher-value-on-soft-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/discovery-adr.com\/us\/tech-employers-place-higher-value-on-soft-skills\/","title":{"rendered":"Tech employers place higher value on soft skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Grads-training-620.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2288\" src=\"http:\/\/www.discovery-graduates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Grads-training-620.jpg\" alt=\"Grads-training-620\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tech employers are now placing higher value on emotional intelligence and soft skills than technical expertise, according to a new report by recruitment agency Randstad Technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Randstad analysed tech job vacancies placed on their website and found employers in the technology sector are increasingly looking for candidates with soft skills.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soft skills provide a profound impact on business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Both emotional intelligence and soft skills, such as being self aware and having the ability to interact with others, are now being sought after just as much as technical experience.<\/p>\n<p>According to Randstad\u2019s findings, tech employers are now placing higher value on the following:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Team work (66%)<br \/>\n\u2022 Communication (43%)<br \/>\n\u2022 Organisation (28%)<br \/>\n\u2022 Time management (22%)<br \/>\n\u2022 Problem solving (11%)<br \/>\n\u2022 Leadership (10%)<br \/>\n\u2022 Interpersonal skills (8%)<br \/>\n\u2022 Relationship building (6%)<br \/>\n\u2022 Negotiation (4%)<\/p>\n<p>The report found that employers highly regard team players and those that have the ability to work well and communicate with others.<br \/>\nManaging Director of Randstad Technologies, Ruth Jacobs, explained that businesses require both expertise and a sound soft skillset in order to \u201cstay competitive and ensure long-term success\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent research conducted by the Development of Economics Group estimated that soft skills are worth a total of \u00a388 billion every year to businesses, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Jacobs described the impact of soft skills on businesses as \u201cprofound\u201d because they allow employers to respond to clients and manage deadlines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personality traits are central<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Randstad also found employers would list certain personality traits they were seeking alongside qualifications and soft skills.<br \/>\nThese included being effective (31%), passionate (18%), flexible (15%), accurate (14%), driven (8%) and enthusiastic (5%) with showing initiative (9%) another key trait sought by employers.<\/p>\n<p>Jacobs explained that when employers receive a large amount of impressive CVs \u201chaving the right attitude can differentiate [one candidate] from the crowd\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Professional success is no longer just about having the qualifications; it\u2019s also about personality too.<\/p>\n<p>Are you a recent graduate?
